Food allergies & intolerances


Food allergies and intolerances are on the rise around the world. They range from the inconvenient and the annoying, to the serious and potentially fatal. However, this does not mean you are destined to a life of deprivation! 

If you have been diagnosed with a food allergy, it is important that the food allergens are avoided and substituted with appropriate alternatives to maintain adequate nutrient and energy levels. The team of Accredited Practising Dietitians (APDs) at Food & Nutrition Australia can assist with dietary advice and meal plans to ensure your diet is nutritionally adequate while avoiding the allergen in question.

If you suspect you have a food intolerance, we offer a number of approaches to identifying the problem foods or ingredients, including a simplified “elimination diet” – the ‘gold standard’ for diagnoses of food intolerances. Once problem foods are identified, our dietitians will help determine your tolerance level and provide you with a personalised and nutritionally adequate meal plan that puts you back in control of your diet and your health!

We work with adults and children to diagnose and manage food intolerance and its associated symptoms which can include:

  • itchiness of skin, swelling and rash
  • nasal congestion, excess mucous, recurring throat or sinus pain or infections
  • headaches, tiredness and muscle aches; poor memory and concentration; irritability; depression; eyesight disturbance; and hyperactivity
