Carolyn has also reduced her cholesterol and blood glucose level over this time period and with the support of her FNA dietitian is feeling so much better about herself! |
Carolyn was motivated to contact FNA in March this year when she felt she was ready to make a lifestyle change and it was suggested by her doctor.
Carolyn’s key goals were to reduce her cholesterol and blood glucose levels as a recent test had identified higher than ideal readings. She also wanted to reduce her weight to 70kg to assist her to improve her health and wellbeing.
“I am not generally into seeking help from professionals as I am often skeptical about their motivation,” says Carolyn. “However, I was pleasantly surprised by the practical ideas that were personally tailored to my situation. I got results immediately, which was great”.
Following her initial visit at FNA, Carolyn had a metabolism test and was provided with key suggestions on how to modify her eating pattern in order to reach her goals. Carolyn was also interested in incorporating more legumes into her diet to increase her soluble fibre intake and required quick and easy meal ideas due to her busy work schedule.
“The meal plan provided worked with my preferences which was good. I like to snack at night and I was given some snack options that worked for me which was a big help. I also needed to find a plan that would work in with my daughter as I didn’t really want to cook two meals. I was able to achieve all this and now feel so much better as a result”.
“I have tried a lot of diets in the past and found the tailored support really helpful. We focused on specific issues and hurdles and worked through them together and I really liked all the practical tips and recipes provided. I also benefit from checking in on a regular basis as it helps keep me on track” says Carolyn.
Carolyn now incorporates more vegetables and legumes into her diet and also takes food with her when needed in order to stick to her healthy eating plan. At a recent working bee she took a fruit platter for morning tea to avoid the cakes and biscuits – a choice consequently enjoyed by everyone!
“I’ve learnt there are a lot of things I can eat that I like and they keep me feeling full like oats or muesli and yoghurt at breakfast. I have learnt a lot about foods, what is in them and what’s not in them and that I can still go out for dinner from time to time with no impact on my weight”.
Along with a change in her eating pattern, Carolyn has increased her activity and used a pedometer to set goals for herself with her daily walking. She manages to keep her 18 year old daughter happy by cooking meals for both of them at home and slightly modifying her own dish as needed.
Well done Carolyn!
